Chile Go Through To The Confederations Cup Final

Chile have gone through to the Confederations Cup final in Russia after a cool penalty shootout win over Portugal. Bravo was the hero after he saved all three Portuguese penalties as the South American champions won the shoot-out 3-0.

Chances for both sides were few and far between after an exciting first 10 minutes, but there wasn’t much to note from either Alexis Sanchez or Cristiano Ronaldo for much of the game. So the game found itself in Extra time and it was more of the same in the first half with only a Fonte yellow card to note. The second half saw another yellow card, this time for Bruno Alves and then Cedric, that after an almost controversial decision by the referee not to award a penalty after Fonte tripped Silva and the official made no use of his VAR.

Chile almost won it in the dying moments with Arturo Vidal’s brilliant attempt striking the post before Rodriguez’ follow up hit the bar and that was as close as we came to a goal.

The penalty shoot out ensued with Vidal putting Chile 1 up, Portugal’s Ricardo Quaresma then stepped up but his poor penalty was saved by Manchester City stopper Claudio Bravo, Charles Aranguiz again displayed how to take a penalty as he doubled the lead before Joao Moutinho’s poor penalty was again saved. Alexis Sanchez was almost invisible during the game but he converted his penalty to leave it down to former United forward Nani to keep Portugal in the competition, however Bravo had other ideas as he forced a third save and put Chile through to the final.

Chile will face the winners of tomorrows semi final between world champions Germany and Mexico, who Chile thrashed 7-0 on there way to qualify for this competition. kick off is 19:00 GMT and the game will be shown live on ITV for UK viewers.
